I’m participating in a writing prompt exchange from Scriptic.org. So, you can expect weekly creative writing posts.
Fiction isn’t my thing, but I’ll admit this was a fun little activity. (Thanks for a great prompt, Maya!)
Looking into a mirror, she saw what she actually looked like.
“A goddam whore,” she thought.
She never should have let her cousin do her make-up for the big day. But, her abuela insisted. Blue eye shadow. Seriously? And that lipstick. What was it-coral?
Thankfully, nobody understood English, so Rosa could make snide comments out loud, as long as she smiled a lot.
But really, what had she expected when she agreed to get married in her small pueblo. She should have just paid to fly everyone to New York. That’s where her life was now, and had been for the past eight years.
At least, the food would be good – homemade, and fresh. Plus, there would be plenty of beer. And, dancing. Everyone dancing. Everyone, except her father. The guilt came back in a wave of nausea.
It was just a few months ago that the authorities came and took him away.
(Intrigued? Me too! Perhaps I will finish the story one day…)
For the Scriptic.org prompt exchange this week, Maya Bahl gave me this prompt: Looking into a mirror, she saw what she actually looked like. I gave Kit at Fox Scribbles this prompt: Describe one of your favorite places – from your past or present life.

Lol. I liked the humor in this piece. You never know how your make-up will turn out when you leave your face to someone else’s creative hands.
Thanks! Glad you enjoyed it. I think most women can at least relate to that part.

I love the idea of a round-robin prompt exchange. Great take on the looking into the mirror beginning. I’m looking forward to reading more of your writing.
Thank you. It’s fun activity, and good motivation to keep writing.
